Is pretty much what I do lately.

Wonder how things work in this place. Wonder why not everything just falls apart

Things work quite different here than anywhere else. Must be with so many mixed cultures. There are 2 million Expatriates here and 1 million Kuwaitis.

I mean, take for example all the lowly paid workers, I’m not talking about the guys that take your trash or drive the taxi, I mean the ones that clean the malls and keep the toilets tidy.

Thursday, we were having a coffee at Al Kout mall, outside the Sultan Center. There was trash laying around on the floor (a rare sight), one of those cleaners was leaning against the wall, chitchatting with another guy. Then he started , no not getting the trash, he started splashing water on the ground, little dips, and scrubbing it a bit with a broom. He did that for a few minutes, then went somewhere else. Trash still laying there.

Or yesterday, a cleaning lady in of the public mall toilets (I’m not going to say which one, because she’s a nice and sweet lady), was laying on top of the hand wash basins, deep asleep.

And talking to one young guy in a Sports shop about people in general here and work, etc., he told me that he actually had a job in the Scientific Center to feed the animals and do stuff there, but his work Visa got transferred to this job, selling sports clothes and shoes.
And you wonder why you get a shitty service here? Having people work in jobs, they a) absolutely didn’t want and b) where they have no freaking clue what the hell they are doing?! He didn’t have a clue about running shoes.

The last experience really got me thinking. I mean, I know that most people are here, because the money is better than at home. No matter who you take.
But Westerners at least can choose their job. Or work in what they have learned to do.

Here it seems that they a) just get put in ANY job AND are paid quite shitty.

I got some serious camera and lens envy – Ich wurde in Anbetracht der versammelten Kameras und Objektive “leicht” neidisch

I was impressed by the Security measures inside and outside the water – everything was there – Ich war von den Sicherheitsmassnahmen beeindruckt – alles war da, im und ausserhalb vom Wasser

At first I tried to sneak a shot of him, didn’t work and I felt bad doing so anyway. So I asked him, if I could take a pic and he agreed —– Zuerst wollte ich ein Bild klauen, ging aber nicht und es hat sich auch nicht richtig angefuehlt. Dann habe ich ihn gefragt, ob ich ein Bild machen darf und er hat zugestimmt

Red Bull Flugtag in Kuwait (part 2)

This is part two of yesterdays amazing Red Bull Flugtag at Marina Waves. Part 1 is here, also with some links to one of the teams.

Nice Stunt

Team 11 – Tom & Gerry Team – for some reason this went all too quick and this is the only shot I got from them

I’m not sure what kind of a Stunt that guy in the top left corner pulled, but at least the Pilot was where he was supposed to be

Team 19 – doing a break dance before the flight – everey crew had to play a song (part of it) and do a little Show before the actual flight

Team 22 – from Bahrain – NICE!! Made me laugh so hard, even though it didn’t fly very far

Team 26 – the plane resembled the Kuwait Towers – neat idea- I was distracted by the balloons, thought take off would take a few more seconds, so I missed the actual flight of this one

Team 28 – KGL Logestics Team- everyone thought that they would try to fly with the van – nice trick

Hedges / Hecken

Yes, there’s a story to this shot as well.
He and his colleagues were cutting the hedges.
I was wondering, why people put in alot of water and effort to make a place green. When it finally is green they send people to cut stuff all the way down, so you only see the brown, leafless stumps….
So, I was trying to sneak a picture of the guys cutting the hedges. Turns out, I’m all but sneaky. So this guy starts posing for me.
All right. This is one of the results.

Fruehmorgens letzte Woche. Ich komme grade vm Strand, als ich sehe, dass Leute die Hecken an der Strasse am schneiden sind. Warum man viel Geld und Wasser investiert, damit Hecken gruen werden, nur damit sie zu braunen Stuempfen zurueck beschnitten werden, ist mir schleierhaft.
Hier bin ich also, versuche mal wieder unauffaellig ein Bild zu knipsen. Bin nicht unauffaellig. Der Typ hier beginnt fuer mich zu posen und das ist eins von den Resultaten
