We lived in Waegwan, Chilgok county, South Korea for 2 years.
Being a wannabe photographer I took a lot of photos during those months.
Mainly from Waegwan, but a few also from Daegu. some Holy places and some Tourist attractions.
I just get started show you a few of my favorites.
* Dhonghwasa Temple, Palgong mountain - near Daegu

Hi, I found my way here by your photos on flikr. Got a question if you have time…. I used to live in that small house up the road from you just under the big apartments. (I have a beagle if you might remember). Anyway, I’m headed back to Korea soon and wondering if you ever found any reputable Kennels in Waegwan. Need to find a place to keep my dog locally while I’m looking for housing.
Nice pics BTW. I like the ones of the old guy… I used to call him ‘Soju Adishi’. Very interesting guy.
Thanks,
Eric

Very, very beautiful page. Thank you! What an awesome experience for you! This market looks kind of freaky… All those things you could buy there… The cats and dogs in cages waiting to be sold for a good dinner would have freaked me out though. I guess I would have bought them all and taken them home, lol! Oh well, every country eats different things… The tried up bats or whatever else those were looked interesting! Oh and the waffles look oh so delicious!

we are headed to Camp Carroll next month. What are off-post housing costs like? We have never been to asia so I am a little leary about bathrooms & such, although my husband isn’t. Any areas NOT to live? Eric, how long will you be there? I am hoping to learn some real photography although it will be self taught. I really appreciate your pictures! Makes it all real in my mind.

LOL, Korea isn’t that bad at all.
Waegwan neither.
You gotta ignore most of the bathrooms in the bars and restaurants, cough cough, but the ones in the houses usually are alright.
I give you one of the clean examples:

But usually they have “normal” toilets
We have lived in two houses near “the strip”, means Gate 4, not in downtown.
Not many foreigners seem to live downtown even though they started building similar apartment houses near the river.
Here’s a link to the two houses we lived in:

If I recall it right in both cases we didn’t pay more than 500 dollars. They were furnished but not with great windows nor AC.
The one NOT at the ricefield was the best of the two. It had a decent AC as well (you sort of need it in summer.
You can also go for the Apartment houses, but that was never an option for us.

I will contact Eric and send him you email if that’s ok, cause I doubt he’s still reading my blog
Don’t worry, you’ll like it there if you like Photography

That’s where I started
And I would love to go back, just for that exact reason. Now that I’m into it even more, there is so much I want to go reshoot or shoot to begin with
Best of luck! When do you go there?
